NOTICE THAT THIS IS FROM 1995!

(AND JUST HERE FOR NOSTALGIC REASONS ;-)

DEVELOPEMENT STALLED,

I WILL CONTINUE PROGRAMMING SOON...

to be continued; really, I promise...; I swear...;

(Hey, that reminds me of Henry Rollins »Liar«... ;-)

version 0.3 changes:

-source is here

-elements now stored in homedir ./xelcad

-binary compiled without debbuging info (some users reported seg-faults)

-few other things (don't know anymore...)

XelCAD IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND NOT NEARLY FINISHED!

DON'T BLAME IT ON ME IF IT DELETES YOUR HD, OR ANYTHING ELSE...

ALL REMARKS WELCOME (see email below...)

What's this thing?

XelCAD is a X-based application, designed to create electrical circuit layouts. It's, off course,

not a professional CAD application, but it's absolutely sufficient for private-home usage

(and students, like me ;-). But, who knows, may be some day...

How does it work?

It's simple. It works like older OrCAD(tm) versions. You have to use the mouse and keyboard

at the same time. There are two different 'element-types':

internal elements: These are wires, busses, junctions, text-elements, ...

external elements: An external element (resistors, capacistors,...) can be placed by typing in it's

name (e.g. 'r', 'c', 'npn', 'opamp', 'tlc271', 'diode_z',...). The entered name corresponds to a file

in the library directory. Adding (creating) your own elements is very simple.

How far's developement?

These are not implemented, or need improvement:

-the layout size is not stored in the save-file

-the printing option (and configuration) is a little unhandy

-preferences can't be loaded (hardcoded, but changeable)

-a »paste« command can not be aborted (you have to delete the elements by pressing »cut«)

-the color-configuration does not work anymore (...don't know why...)

-there're only a few elements in the distribution...(reading pspice[tm] libraries at work... )

How does it look like?

Here's a sample screenshot.

Where can I get it and what else do I need?

pre-compiled x86-binary distribution (XelCAD)

get the source (here)

You'll need the xforms library (version 0.88.1 or newer), get it here.

Please, this is a work in progress, consider this version as a preliminary-look-what-this-is-all-

about application (but, it's working fine ;-).

Feel free to send your comments or flames, but please, include the keyword 'xelcad' in the subject.
